Following a meeting chaired by Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, expectations have emerged for a new legal regulation aimed at better protecting investors' funds and subjecting fund companies to stricter audits.

Developments Following the Meeting

At the recent meeting chaired by Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, the process regarding the liquidation of 131 investment funds tied to 7 portfolio management companies and the payouts to investors were evaluated, alongside steps that can be taken to prevent similar problems from recurring.

Following these developments, expectations arose in the market for a new legal regulation to more strongly protect investors' money and ensure stricter oversight of fund companies.

Transparency and Risk Control Targeted

The core of the expectation for a new regulation is enabling investors to more easily see where their money is being invested.

Limiting excessive investments by funds in specific stocks, bringing assets that cannot be easily converted into cash under control, and explaining the risk profile of funds more clearly to investors are currently on the agenda.

Asset Segregation and Increased Responsibility

When citizens invest in a fund, they will be able to see more clearly in which assets the fund's money is held and how quickly these assets can be converted into cash when needed.

The regulation aims to increase the responsibilities of the companies managing the funds and to segregate fund assets from the company's own assets in a more robust manner.

Independent Audit and Valuation

Stricter control of valuations made within funds is also among the issues on the agenda.

By strengthening independent audit and valuation mechanisms, the aim is to reduce risks such as misrepresenting the value of an asset or misleading investors.
