Expected duration of education across Turkey decreased in 2025
According to TURKSTAT data, while the expected duration of education in Turkey declined, the highest and lowest rates by provinces were announced.
According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the expected duration of schooling in 2025 decreased, calculated as 16.8 years.
Change in Duration of Education
Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute on Expected Duration of Schooling for 2025 revealed that the expected duration of education across Turkey decreased by 2.4 percent compared to the previous year, falling to 16.8 years.
Distribution by Gender
According to the released data, the expected duration of education for men dropped by 2.5 percent to 16.3 years, while for women it decreased by 2.4 percent to stand at 17.2 years.
International Comparison
Turkey managed to stay above the OECD average of 16.6 years with its duration of 17.2 years in the relevant scope.
Distribution by Provinces
In 2025, the highest expected duration of education at the provincial level was recorded in the provinces of Bayburt and Karabük with 18.6 years, while the province with the lowest duration was Şanlıurfa with 13.8 years.
Gender Parity Index
The gender parity index across levels ranging from primary school to higher education was calculated as 1.05 for the year 2025 overall.
