The bond market is signaling growing confidence that Fed Chair Kevin Warsh will fulfill his commitment to rein in inflation. The Fed's interest rate hike on Wednesday—the first since 2023—and its forecast for monetary policy tightening have shaped investor expectations.

Markets' New Interest Rate Expectations

Following the Fed's interest rate hike and tightening projections on Wednesday, investors began pricing in three additional rate hikes by the middle of next year. This expectation represents one more hike than the forecasts made prior to the decision.

Swap Market and Bond Yields

According to the swap market, the first of these hikes could occur as early as next month. Meanwhile, the yield on two-year U.S. Treasury bonds rose to 4.74 percent from around 4.6 percent prior to the Fed's announcement.

Experts' Evaluations on Policy and Credibility

Priya Misra, Portfolio Manager at JPMorgan Asset Management, stated that the process has evolved from concerns regarding the Fed's credibility toward economic impacts focused on bringing inflation back to target. Jeffrey Rosenberg, Senior Portfolio Manager at BlackRock, emphasized that the meeting served as a test of credibility for Warsh.

Yield Curve and Long-Term Expectations

Hebe Chen, Market Analyst at Vantage Global Prime, stated that the bond market is forced to price in the probability of Fed tightening in the short term, while the long-term side grapples with inflation and fiscal concerns.
