Foreign Trade Deficit Widens in August While Global Markets See Latest Developments

Turkey's foreign trade deficit expanded by 22.3 percent in August to reach $5.2 billion. In international markets, inflation increases in Europe, expectations for trade volume with the US, and diplomatic contacts on the US-Iran front stand out among the prominent headlines.
Latest Situation in Foreign Trade Data
According to data released by TURKSTAT, exports increased by 8.1 percent on an annual basis in August to rise to $23.5 billion. Imports reached the level of $28.7 billion after recording an increase of 10.5 percent.
As a result of import figures showing a faster increase than exports, the foreign trade deficit widened by 22.3 percent to $5.2 billion.
Trade Volume Targets with the US
Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat made important evaluations following his meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
As a result of the contacts made, it was stated that the total trade volume between the two countries is expected to reach the level of 42 to 43 billion dollars by the end of this year.

However, stating that she has not yet made a definitive decision and will continue her term in 2027, Lagarde conveyed that she is not warmly disposed to the idea of running as a candidate in the presidential elections in France.
Inflation Rates Rose in Europe
According to September preliminary figures, it was observed that there was an increase in inflation rates across Europe.
Annual inflation rose to 3.3 percent in Germany, 3.4 percent in France, and 4.1 percent in Italy.
Diplomatic Process Between the US and Iran
The Iranian government announced that an official response had come from the US regarding the proposal to end the war and that this response had been conveyed to President Masoud Pezeshkian.
US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, threatened renewed attacks on Iran if an agreement could not be reached shortly, arguing that the process would be concluded soon.

Ounce gold prices showed a limited recovery trend following the sharp drops experienced in recent days, trading at approximately $4,162 levels in Asian trading.
