Global grain production projected to decline by three percent
The International Grains Council announced that global grain production will decline and stocks will decrease in the upcoming season.
The International Grains Council expects global grain production to decrease by 3 percent to 2.420 billion tons in the period between July 2026 and June 2027.
Expectation of Decline in Global Production
According to the report published by the International Grains Council, grain production worldwide is projected to decrease by 3 percent in the upcoming period compared to the previous season.
Changes in Production Volume
Expected to remain 74 million tons below the all-time record level recorded last season, total production volume in the new period is estimated to be at the level of 2.420 billion tons.
Three-Year Growth Trend Ends
It is stated that following a three-year consecutive increase process, global grain production will experience a general total decrease, while a 7 percent increase was observed in the record-breaking past season.
Drop in Wheat Production
According to the data shared in the report, global wheat production is expected to decline by 25 million tons to 820 million tons in the 2026/27 season compared to the previous period.
Slowdown in Trade and Shipments
Despite grain production reaching the second-highest level following last season's record, global wheat trade and shipments are proceeding slowly due to export disruptions in the Black Sea region.
Consumption and Stock Expectations
Along with tightening supply and rising prices, global consumption is projected to remain limited, with world grain consumption expected to be 2.444 billion tons, a decrease of only 4 million tons compared to the record-breaking past year.
