Google's 13 Billion Euro Artificial Intelligence Investment in Finland
Technology giant Google will establish data centers and make clean energy investments in Finland through a massive 13 billion euro artificial intelligence and infrastructure project to be implemented in 2027-2028.
US-based technology giant Google is launching its largest single-instance investment in Europe for Finland. The massive budget of 13 billion euros, covering the years 2027 and 2028, will be used for the construction of artificial intelligence infrastructures, new data centers, and clean energy projects.
The Largest Single Investment in Europe
It was stated that this project, which Google will implement in 2027 and 2028, will be the company's largest single-instance investment in Europe. Within the scope of the investment, data centers will be built, electrical grids will be improved, and battery projects will be commissioned.
These infrastructure steps are planned to meet the rapidly growing global demand for core services such as Gemini, Google Search, Maps, and YouTube.
Contribution to Employment and the Economy
Bikash Koley, Google Vice President of Global Infrastructure, announced that the project will support more than 37,000 jobs nationwide during the construction phase. The investment is projected to contribute approximately 3.6 billion euros annually to Finland's Gross Domestic Product.
When the facilities become fully operational, they will offer permanent employment opportunities to thousands of people, ranging from engineers to security and operations personnel.
Education and Local Community Support
Google has allocated a budget of 31 million euros for 4 years to support local communities, education, and economic growth in the regions of Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala. Thanks to the partnerships to be established with this resource, thousands of employees will be equipped with artificial intelligence skills.
Additionally, it is planned to offer special educational opportunities for Finnish students to pursue careers in data centers.
Sustainability and Nuclear Energy Move
Wanting to support Finland's energy grid in line with sustainability goals, Google signed a 22-year agreement to extend the operating life of the Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant. The company also committed to adding wind energy capacity to the grid.
Finland's Strategic Position
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo evaluated Google's giant investment decision as clear proof of the country's strengths. The country is an attractive hub for global technology companies due to its cool climate and rich low-carbon electricity resources.
