Hazelnut producers in Tatarlı Neighborhood of Samsun's Çarşamba district have started harvesting by spreading nets in their orchards. This method requires less labor while drastically shortening the product harvesting time.
Producer Shares Experience
Orhan Karacaer, a producer who used a harvest net in his 3-decares hazelnut orchard in Tatarlı Neighborhood, stated that the hazelnut harvesting process, which previously took 10 days, was completed in a much shorter time thanks to this application.
Examinations by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture
Samsun Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kemal Yılmaz, who conducted investigations in the region, pointed out that the use of harvest nets in hazelnut orchards is showing a growing trend.
70 Percent Reduction in Costs
Kemal Yılmaz stated that the spread net reduces labor, which is the most important cost item in hazelnut production, by up to 70 percent, and also offers benefits in terms of product quality and yield.

The falling of hazelnuts onto the net without directly contacting the soil prevents quality losses and eliminates the necessity of harvesting from the branch, creating an advantage for next year's yield.
