Investigation permit review launched for former CMB Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül
Following the request of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an examination process has been initiated against former CMB Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül on charges of abuse of office.
Upon the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requesting an investigation permit regarding former CMB Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül for the crime of abuse of office, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek tasked the Inspection Board.

Upon the prosecutor's office's request for an investigation permit, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek tasked the Ministry Inspection Board on Friday to conduct a preliminary examination and research within the framework of relevant legislation.
Prosecutor's Office Request for Investigation Permit
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation for Terrorist Financing and Money Laundering requested permission from the Ministry to conduct an investigation against former CMB Chairman Gönül for the crime of abuse of office.
Allegations of Manipulative Transactions
The prosecutor's office's letter stated that manipulative transactions evaluated to have been carried out through portfolio management companies and investment funds in certain stocks traded on the Borsa İstanbul Equity Market were being examined.
CMB Reports Included in the File
It was noted that criminal complaints were filed with the prosecutor's office in line with the reports prepared by the Capital Markets Board from 2024 until September 2026, and these reports are included in the file.
Gönül Gave Testimony as a Suspect
İbrahim Ömer Gönül had given testimony as a suspect at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on September 30 within the scope of the fund investigation and left the courthouse. Gönül's four-year term in office ended on April 18, 2026.
