Minister Bayraktar makes statement on energy cooperation with Azerbaijan
Emphasizing that joint projects in the energy field are developing with a focus on electricity, Minister Bayraktar announced that they are working on Nakhchivan, the green corridor, and Black Sea lines.
Speaking at a forum held in Azerbaijan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the energy partnership between the two countries is deepening with a focus on electricity, and announced that they are working on three critical projects: Nakhchivan, the four-way green energy corridor, and the line extending from under the Black Sea to Europe.
Brotherhood and Strategic Partnership
Attending the forum hosted by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Minister Bayraktar emphasized in his opening remarks that relations between the two countries are based on deep-rooted brotherhood.
Stating that the energy field is one of the most concrete and dynamic areas of strong relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Bayraktar expressed that cooperation continues across a wide spectrum from mining to renewable energy.
Electricity-Focused Developments
Stating that the importance of electricity is steadily increasing in the global energy sector, Minister Bayraktar noted that they are closely following the steps taken regarding transmission and distribution infrastructures.
In this context, it was noted that great importance is attached to the development of electricity connections between Turkey and Azerbaijan, and efforts are continuing with determination.
Nakhchivan Interconnection Project
The Nakhchivan Interconnection Project, one of the most concrete steps of electricity cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan, ranks among the main lines of strategic importance.
Through the project, it is aimed to bring a direct electricity transmission line to Turkey via Nakhchivan and to integrate the energy between the two regions.
Four-Way Green Energy Corridor
The Green Electricity Generation and Trade Project, bringing together Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Bulgaria, is creating a great resonance in the sector.
It is anticipated that the signing ceremony for this important project, which Minister Bayraktar described as the TANAP of electricity, could take place at the COP31 summit.
Line to Europe via the Black Sea
Among the three important projects currently being worked on is a new electricity transmission line that will pass under the Black Sea and extend to Europe.
With the realization of this project, it is planned to deliver the generated electricity to European markets, primarily Romania and Hungary.
New Cooperation Protocol
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov also clearly stated that they want to carry the existing oil and natural gas cooperation into the field of electrification.
Following the talks held, the two ministries updated the forum protocol and decided to study the issue of connectivity in electricity in detail.
