Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and uncertainties surrounding maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz have triggered a rapid rise in natural gas prices in Europe, pushing them above 71 euros.

Rapid Rise in Markets

The megawatt-hour price of October futures contracts at the Netherlands-based TTF, which is accepted as the benchmark in the European natural gas market, rose to 71.08 euros.

Highest Level Since January 2023

Natural gas prices surpassed 69 euros on Monday, reaching their highest level seen since January 2023.

Supply Security Concerns and Storage Facilities

While the escalating tension in the region this week increases concerns regarding energy supply security, the occupancy rate of natural gas storage facilities in Europe stands at 65.85 percent.
