New Clashes and Warning of Retaliation Amid Tensions Between Iran and the US
Following the US announcement that it struck Iranian tankers, the Tehran administration warned that an even harsher response would be given.
Iran announced that it would give a much heavier response if attacked again, while the US Central Command announced on Saturday that it struck three Iranian tankers. Ongoing clashes and sanctions in the region are straining the economy.
Military Clashes and Tanker Attack
While six months have passed since the war that started with US and Israel attacks on Iran, the preliminary ceasefire agreement reached in June has collapsed.
Within the scope of the clashes that resumed after the break in August, the US Central Command announced on Saturday that it struck three Iranian tankers.
Warnings from Iran
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the US must understand that the rules of the game have changed.
Ghalibaf stated that any attack on Iran's interests and security will be met with a faster and more painful response.
Strait of Hormuz and Restricted Zone Plan
Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (noted as Mohsen Rezaei in source text), announced that a restricted zone would be declared outside the Strait of Hormuz.
It was stated that ships entering this zone, which will cover certain areas in the Gulf, will be added to the sanctions list.
Economic Pressures and Reform Plans
The US blockade on oil exports and ongoing sanctions continue to strain the Iranian economy.
Iranian Minister of Economy Ali Madanizadeh announced that Tehran plans to respond to economic pressures with reforms.
