The Ministry of Trade has implemented amendments to the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices to prevent consumers from being misled during discount campaigns. With the new regulation, the lowest price of the last 10 days has started to be taken as the basis for discount calculations.

New Regulation Enters into Force

The Ministry of Trade has put a new regulation into effect to prevent consumers from being misled in discount campaigns, and the relevant regulation changes have started to be applied as of August 1, 2026.

With this step, it is aimed that the price information used in discounted sales is accurate and that consumers make their shopping decisions based on correct information.

Lowest Price of the Last Ten Days Will Be Taken as Basis

Within the scope of the most notable article of the new regulation, the lowest price applied within the 10 days prior to the start of the discounted sale will be accepted as the price before the discount.

Thus, it is aimed to prevent creating the impression that a high-rate discount is being made shortly after artificially increasing the prices of products.

Audits and Administrative Fines

In audits carried out by the Advertising Board, situations such as unrealistic high discount rates, failure to specify campaign products, and incorrect transmission of stock information are examined.

In the event that deceptive advertisements contrary to the legislation are detected, administrative fines ranging from 108,370 liras to 39,916,524 liras can be imposed, depending on the nature of the violation and the broadcasting medium.
