Leading business figures in the region gathered at the fourth annual CEO panel hosted by the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce at Schell's Brewery Bierhalle. The event comprehensively addressed employee retention, economic conditions, and the integration of artificial intelligence into business processes.

Mike Schwartz, Regional President of Frandsen Bank & Trust, stated that the New Ulm economy rests on very solid foundations thanks to employer diversity. Schwartz expressed that the region does not experience sudden fluctuations during major crises unlike other markets, displaying a more stable and balanced growth.

Dairy Production and Deep-Rooted Companies

Sheryl Meshke, CEO of Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI), said the company generates approximately $2 billion in annual sales and has 1,000 employees system-wide. Meshke emphasized agricultural roots by describing New Ulm as the capital of beer, sausage, and butter.

Employee Engagement and Flexible Work

John Gag, President of Gag Sheet Metal Inc., shared that he meets individually with his 75 employees and that paid time off (PTO) requests have not been denied at the company for years. Stating that they provide office workers with flexible and unlimited time off options, Gag noted that they place great importance on employee happiness.

Staff Recruitment in the Healthcare Sector

Carisa Buegler, President of the New Ulm Medical Center, announced that six new providers will join the 700-strong healthcare team by the end of the year. Buegler stated that they promote the community well to attract new specialists to the region and that housing opportunities are also effective in the recruitment processes.

Local Businesses and Customer Relations

Danielle Marti, co-founder of Gallery 512 Boutique, emphasized that 85 percent of sales come from local and loyal customers. Marti stated that the online shopping experience cannot replace the physical store and that people support people rather than businesses.

Artificial Intelligence Applications

Local businesses announced that they have begun integrating artificial intelligence tools into their operational processes. While boutique managers stated they use ChatGPT and Gemini as virtual assistants, it was expressed that artificial intelligence is also utilized to increase efficiency in the healthcare and banking sectors.
