Physical completion rate reaches 98 percent on the Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi Motorway
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu announced that with the completion of the Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi Motorway, the 2.5-hour journey in summer months will drop to 18 minutes.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that works on the Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi Motorway, which has reached a physical realization rate of 98 percent, are at the completion stage, and reported that travel time in the region will be significantly shortened thanks to the project.
Technical Specifications of the Motorway
The Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi Section has a total length of 52 kilometers, consisting of a 41-kilometer motorway and an 11-kilometer connection road. Within the scope of the project, 6 junctions, 7 tunnels with a total length of 10,116 meters, and 5 viaducts with a length of 1,633 meters are being constructed.
Reduction in Travel Time
With the project, which aims to provide a solution to the traffic load intensifying in summer months, a significant portion of the transit traffic on the existing state road will be transferred to the motorway. Thus, the travel time, which reaches up to 2.5 hours in the summer, will decrease to 18 minutes.
Economic and Environmental Savings
It is projected that the project will provide a total of 3 billion 38 million liras in savings, including 2.7 billion liras annually from time and 338 million liras from fuel. In addition, it is planned to reduce carbon emissions by 17,100 tons per year.
Contribution to the Transportation and Tourism Network
Mersin's tourism regions will be connected to the operational Mersin-Adana-Gaziantep Motorway, ensuring uninterrupted transportation. Transit traffic on the D400 and D715 state roads will be enabled to reach the motorway without entering city centers.
Logistics and Port Connections
The Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi Motorway will provide significant infrastructure support to the highway leg of the Development Road. With the Kızkalesi-Taşucu Section to be built in the next phase, the access of Taşucu Port to the main highway network will be strengthened.
Current Status of Works
Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the construction works are at the completion stage, and noted that as of today, a 98 percent physical realization level has been reached across the overall project.
