Qatar's security and energy market assessment for Gulf countries

Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari, speaking at the Hili Forum held in Abu Dhabi, emphasized the importance of Gulf countries achieving self-sufficiency in security while sharing the negative impacts of regional crises on energy markets and LNG production.

Strategic Approach to Gulf Security

Speaking at a panel organized during the Hili Forum in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari stated that the war with Iran has provided important lessons regarding security.

Ansari noted that while preserving the value of strategic partnerships with international powers and the US in the region, relying solely on external alliances for security is not sufficient and self-sufficiency is essential.

Impacts on Energy Markets and Supply Chain

Expressing that current crises deeply affect the world energy system, international trade, maritime transport, and global supply chains, Ansari noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz directly concerns international security.

It was announced that following recent developments, there have been major drops in the amount of liquefied natural gas shipped from the Gulf region.

Drops in LNG and Oil Shipments

In the statements made, it was reported that due to the crisis in the region, the amount of liquefied natural gas leaving the Gulf decreased by 90 percent, and the amount of oil decreased by 77 percent.

Additionally, it was shared that a single unmanned aerial vehicle reduced the country's total LNG production capacity by 17 percent.
