Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş Emphasizes Regional Cooperation and a Terror-Free Turkey

Grand National Assembly of Turkey Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Haibat Halbusi, who is in Ankara on an official visit, to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.
Inter-Delegation Meetings Held
TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş hosted Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Haibat Halbusi, who is paying an official visit to Turkey, at the Parliament. Following a private meeting, the two leaders chaired an inter-delegation meeting and held a joint press conference.
Positive Momentum in Relations
Kurtulmuş stated that relations between the two countries have gained an exceptionally positive momentum, emphasizing that close inter-parliamentary cooperation will be continued with determination. Global system crises and conflicts in the Middle East were also addressed.
Principle of Regional Ownership
Drawing attention to the conflicts in the Middle East, Kurtulmuş noted that problems in the region must be addressed with the principle of regional ownership. The importance of solutions being found by the countries of the region was highlighted.
Support for the Development Road Project
Stating that the Development Road Project will connect Asia and Europe via Iraq and Turkey, Kurtulmuş reiterated their full support for all steps to be taken to accelerate the project.
Terror-Free Turkey Approach
Recalling that the relevant proposal was enacted into law in the TBMM General Assembly, Kurtulmuş stated that the PKK has dissolved itself and initiated the disarmament process. It was noted that this approach will positively reflect on the entire region.
Purging Iraq of Terrorism
Kurtulmuş expressed his hope that purging Iraq of terrorist organizations and armed militia groups will bring permanent peace and well-being to the region.
Parliament Visit and Laying Carnations
Following the press conference, TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş gave guest parliament speaker Halbusi a tour of the TBMM General Assembly hall. The delegation laid carnations at the spot where a bomb hit the Parliament on July 15, 2016.
