Retail Price Increases Accelerated in Istanbul in September

Retail prices in Istanbul increased by 2.11 percent in September compared to the previous month, while the wholesale index also experienced a monthly rise.

According to Istanbul Chamber of Commerce data, retail prices in Istanbul rose by 2.11 percent on a monthly basis and 33.55 percent on an annual basis in September 2026. The Wholesale Price Index increased by 1.96 percent over the same period.

Change in Retail Prices

According to data released by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, the Istanbul Consumer Price Index, which indicates retail price movements in Istanbul, recorded a monthly increase of 2.11 percent in September 2026. In the previous month, monthly inflation was at 1.66 percent.

Annual inflation in retail prices stood at 33.55 percent in September. In the preceding month, this rate was at 34.96 percent.

Increases in Expenditure Groups

In September, the highest increase in retail prices compared to the previous month was observed in the education group at 22.59 percent.

The education group was followed by transportation at 4.60 percent, miscellaneous goods and services at 2.96 percent, and restaurants and hotels expenditure groups at 2.42 percent.

Other Expenditure Groups and Unchanged Items

Communication expenses increased by 2.24 percent, household goods by 1.93 percent, recreation and culture by 1.73 percent, and housing by 1.69 percent.

While clothing and footwear increased by 0.91 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.14 percent, no price change was observed in alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and health expenditure groups.

Wholesale Price Index Data

The Wholesale Price Index, reflecting wholesale price movements, recorded an increase of 1.96 percent in the September 2026 period.

The rate of change in wholesale prices compared to the same month of the previous year was calculated as 25.90 percent, and the annual average rate of change was 23.97 percent.

Wholesale Sectoral Price Movements

In September 2026, wholesale prices on a monthly basis increased by 6.56 percent for fuel and energy materials, 4.99 percent for minerals, and 4.89 percent for construction materials.

During the same period, unprocessed materials increased by 4.15 percent and chemical materials by 1.31 percent, whereas food materials decreased by 0.68 percent and no change was observed in textiles.

Annual Average Sectoral Developments

On an annual average basis as of September 2026, wholesale price increases reached 40.11 percent in minerals.

An annual average increase of 27.60 percent was recorded in food materials, 24.79 percent in fuel and energy, and 23.97 percent in construction materials.
