During comprehensive talks held between Turkish and Iraqi delegations in Ankara, it was reported that a strategic roadmap to deepen energy cooperation between the two countries has been clarified.
Critical Contacts Held in Ankara
A high-level meeting was held in Ankara to increase cooperation in the field of energy between Turkey and Iraq. Minister Bayraktar received Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani (Basim Muhammed Hüdeyir) and his accompanying delegation in his office.
Supply Security and the Dimension of Relations
It was emphasized that in this period when regional developments have made energy supply security critical, relations between Turkey and Iraq have been carried to a much stronger dimension.
New Agreement and Roadmap
Following the crude oil transportation agreement signed between BOTAŞ, SOMO, and NOC last August, a roadmap is being clarified for a new long-term agreement.
Joint Working Groups Are Being Activated
It is planned to activate joint working groups in order to quickly finalize oil and natural gas infrastructure, exploration and production, oil trading, refinery-petrochemistry, and electricity projects.
Kirkuk-Ceyhan Pipeline Project
Extending the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline to Basra and increasing its capacity is evaluated as a strong alternative against the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz.
Objectives of Ceyhan and TPAO
Studies are ongoing in line with the objectives of TPAO taking an active role in fields in Iraq and making Ceyhan a global energy hub.
Strategic Energy Route Vision
It was stated that a determined stance is exhibited in building the Development Road as a strategic energy route within the scope of cooperation between the two countries.
