Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok, Rosatom official Panov announced that foreign companies are targeted to carry out over 60 transit voyages via the Northern Sea Route this year.

Important information was shared during the session on the security of the Northern Sea Route held within the scope of the Eastern Economic Forum in the city of Vladivostok. Official Panov stated that the volume of international transit transportation using the route has shown a steady increase.
Voyages by International Companies
It was reported that last year a Chinese company made an experimental crossing to Europe via the Northern Sea Route and completed this distance in less than six days. It was noted that this year a South Korean company will organize a similar pilot voyage, and India is expected to join this process next year.
Strategic Route and Its Importance
Russia attaches great strategic importance to the development of the approximately 5,600-kilometer-long route extending from the Kara Sea to Cape Dezhnev in the Bering Strait. Especially covered with thick ice sheets during the winter months, the Northern Sea Route holds the potential to be an alternative route for global shipping.
