According to the official data announced for the second quarter, the Turkish economy generally recorded a growth rate of 2.3 percent.
Sectoral Distribution and Growth Rates
Information and communication activities grew by 8.6 percent, the industrial sector by 2.4 percent, real estate activities by 2.1 percent, and the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector by 13.3 percent.
Contraction in the Construction Sector
Contrary to the general economic growth, the construction sector drew attention by experiencing a contraction of 1.9 percent.
Industry and Technology in Ankara
In Ankara, a 2.4 percent growth was observed in industry under the influence of the defense industry, machinery, electronics, and high-technology manufacturing. The 8.6 percent rise in the information and communication field created a strong area for technoparks and software companies.
Factors Affecting New Project Decisions
Increases in land costs, construction materials, and labor prices, along with difficulties in accessing financing, ranked among the primary factors affecting new project decisions.
Observed Slowdown in Investments
Fixed capital investment growth, which was 3 percent in the first quarter, fell to 0.6 percent in the second quarter, demonstrating the cautious stance of companies.
