Statement on Highways and Bridges from the Privatization Administration
It was stated that the ongoing efforts do not involve the sale of public assets, but rather aim solely at transferring the operating rights.
The Privatization Administration of the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance made a written statement addressing public debates regarding highways and bridges, sharing the details of the process.
Transfer of Operating Rights, Not Sale
The Privatization Administration announced that the efforts regarding highways and bridges are not aimed at selling public assets.
It was stated that a model based on transferring the operating rights for a specific period while ownership remains with the state is being evaluated.
Transparent and Compliant Process
It was conveyed that technical, legal, and financial preparation studies are being carried out in coordination with relevant institutions and in compliance with regulations.
It was emphasized that all stages of the process will be conducted in line with the principles of transparency, competition, and accountability.
Revenue and Profit Evaluations
It was argued that public claims regarding a 600 million dollar profit and a total of 18 billion dollars over 30 years are incomplete and misleading.
It was noted that this amount represents revenue rather than profit, and a significant portion of it is allocated to maintenance, repair, and investment expenditures.
Free Highways and Employee Rights
It was announced that there is no decision to make free highways toll roads or to introduce additional hikes to toll fees.
It was stated that any regulation that would cause employees to lose their existing rights is not on the agenda either.
