New Welfare Party Deputy Chairman Doğan Bekin made important evaluations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, developments in Iran, and U.S. policies during a press conference at the TBMM.

Evaluation of the Strait of Hormuz

New Welfare Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Doğan Bekin made evaluations regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Bekin stated that it is not possible to achieve a permanent solution solely through U.S. pressures without the joint consent of Iran and Oman.

Iran's Sovereignty and Regional Countries

Stating that Iran has a wide coastline, Doğan Bekin argued that a solution cannot be achieved without the joint consent of Iran and Oman.

Bekin noted that the protection of Iran's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence should be a priority for all regional countries, especially Turkey.

U.S. Policies and International Law

Doğan Bekin stated that U.S. President Trump's insistence on a unilateral transit corridor by exerting pressure on Oman is a violation of international law.

Bekin expressed that it is unacceptable for the U.S. to launch an attack by failing to adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Iran.

UN Silence and the Mecca Agreement

Bekin also emphasized that the silence of UN bodies undermines international credibility.

He drew attention to the fact that the Mecca Agreement, which emerged following the attacks by the U.S. and Israel, should not cause new polarization and marginalization in the region.
