Answering journalists' questions on the plane upon his return from Kyrgyzstan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that they discussed every issue on their agenda with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdoğan made important statements regarding the F-35 program, the KAAN combat aircraft project, tensions in the Black Sea, and the perspective of membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

F-35 and KAAN Projects

Recalling that Turkey is one of the partners of the F-35 program and has provided significant contributions, President Erdoğan stated that negotiations on rejoining the program are ongoing.

Stating that they think the issue will be left behind once the processes in the America are completed, Erdoğan emphasized that while these diplomatic efforts are being carried out, they will not give up on KAAN and developing their own air defense systems.

Black Sea Security and Grain Crisis

Touching upon the escalating tension between Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea, Erdoğan expressed the need for a mechanism that will permanently ensure the security of commercial maritime transportation.

Erdoğan also pointed out that a grain crisis has begun on the African continent, underlining the global risks regarding this issue.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Perspective

Responding to the question of whether Turkey will become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Erdoğan said that it is possible for relations to be taken to further levels in the upcoming period for them.

Erdoğan particularly stated that the perspective of membership in the organisation never means breaking away from a bloc or turning one's back on the West.
