Innovative designs for the future of Harem Bus Terminal are being sought through an idea project competition organized by the Istanbul Association of Independent Architects.

In the competition implemented with the support of the Istanbul Association of Independent Architects and the Istanbul Planning Agency, architecture and design students will develop projects for Harem Bus Terminal.

The History of Harem, the Symbol of Yeşilçam

Opened in 1970 and serving as an open-air studio for movie producers for years, Harem Bus Terminal hosted Yeşilçam films.

The area, which has become a symbol of Istanbul for Anatolia, currently has a daily average traffic of 10,000 people.

Aim and Scope of the Competition

The title of the competition, organized by the Istanbul Association of Independent Architects and supported by the Istanbul Planning Agency, has been determined as The Future of Harem Bus Terminal.

Contestants are expected to address the bus terminal not only limited to its current location, but also at the scale of the neighborhood, district, Bosphorus, and metropolis.

Conditions of Participation and Date

Undergraduate students studying in relevant departments of universities in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus can apply for the competition.

The deadline for projects has been announced to the public as December 7, 2026.

Award Distribution and Degrees

It was announced that the competition will award 125 thousand Turkish Liras to the first place, 100 thousand to the second, and 75 thousand to the third.

Additionally, fifty thousand Turkish Liras will be presented to each of the five equivalent mention holders.
