Diesel prices, rising due to geopolitical developments and conflicts, bring an additional cost of 203 million euros daily to the European economy, while global debt reached 365.5 trillion dollars in the first half of 2026.

Reasons for the Increase in Diesel Prices

Conflicts in the Middle East and production disruptions in Russian refineries have reduced the supply of refined petroleum products.

The widening gap between crude oil and diesel prices has caused fuel costs to gain upward momentum across Europe.

It was recorded that 203 million euros of this total additional cost stems directly from diesel consumption.

Total Cost and Sectoral Impacts

Since the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, the total additional cost faced by the EU economy due to diesel used on roads has reached 40 billion euros.

It was reported that 77 percent of diesel and gas oil consumption in the EU originates from road transport and 38 percent of passenger cars are diesel.

Losses of Drivers and Businesses

Drivers using diesel cars are forced to pay an average of 19 euros extra per tank.

Truck operators, on the other hand, face an average additional cost of 236 euros weekly.
