TR-2 Research Reactor Relicensed and Operations to Begin

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that the TR-2 Research Reactor has been relicensed during his speech at the Nuclear Energy Technologies Design Competition held as part of TEKNOFEST 2026.

Competition and Final Day

The final day of the Nuclear Energy Technologies Design Competition, held for the third time this year at the TENMAK Çekmece Campus, was organized. During the program, design presentations of the finalist teams were listened to, and the questions of the young participants were answered. Selçuk Bayraktar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TEKNOFEST and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the T3 Foundation, also attended the event.

Nuclear Energy Targets

Drawing attention to the importance of nuclear energy, Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that a strong value chain must be established in this field. Stating that Turkey aims to reach a capacity of 20,000 megawatts in nuclear energy, Bayraktar expressed that the nuclear sector will be one of the country's fastest-growing industries.

New Projects and the TR-2 Reactor

Stating that reactors planned to be established in Sinop and Thrace, as well as small modular reactors, are on the country's agenda, Minister Bayraktar announced that the TR-2 Research Reactor has been relicensed. It was stated that nuclear research and tests will be conducted again at this facility in a very short time.
