Turkey to stand out in the global chip race with national projects and new facilities

Turkey is preparing to increase its domestic R&D and production capacity in the semiconductor sector through new facilities and Medium-Term Program targets.

Turkey is implementing national projects and new investments to strengthen economic security in chip supply, which determines the continuity of production from automotive to defense.

Strategic Sector Targets

In order to overcome supply issues and increase its technological independence, Turkey has included semiconductors among strategic sectors in the 2027-2029 Medium-Term Program. Within the scope of the program, it is targeted to produce identity, passport, and industrial chips domestically.

It is anticipated that action plans to strengthen supply security in manufacturing, energy, agriculture, health, and transportation fields will be submitted to the Presidency's Strategy and Budget Directorate by the end of the year.

Development of Production Capacity

With ongoing efforts through TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and YİTAL, the current production capacity of 250 nanometers is targeted to be reduced to the 110 nanometer level during the MTP period. These steps aim to transfer design and R&D competence directly to the production phase.

Investments and Consortium

It is planned to reduce foreign dependency by establishing a multi-partner National Chip Consortium with public support. In addition to TÜBİTAK incentives, the HIT-30 High Technology Investment Program launched by the Ministry of Industry and Technology also guides the sector. With the program's HIT-Chip call, which has a budget of 5 billion dollars, an annual production capacity of at least 1 million wafers in 65-nanometer or more advanced technology will be established.

National Processor Projects

Within the scope of technological studies carried out across the country, national processor projects such as ÇAKIL and ALP-EREN are being brought to life. Through these projects, the creation of secure processor cores in critical areas is ensured.
