Turkey's Solar and Wind Energy Production Data Announced
Turkey reduced fossil fuel imports and prevented millions of tons of emissions through electricity generation from solar and wind during the 2015-2025 period.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey generated a total of 442.2 terawatt-hours of electricity from solar and wind energy over the past decade.
Ten-Year Production Figures
Turkey's total electricity generation from solar and wind energy between 2015 and 2025 reached a level of 442.2 terawatt-hours.
Production across the country, which stood at 11,847 gigawatt-hours in 2015, was steadily increased over the intervening 10-year period.
Imports and Emissions Prevented
Thanks to this renewable energy breakthrough, billions of dollars in fossil fuel imports were prevented.
According to calculations, this production substituted for $21.5 billion worth of imported coal or $43.3 billion worth of natural gas imports.
As a result of preventing fossil fuel use, approximately 354 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions were averted.
Future Targets and Net Zero Emissions
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that renewable energy is being evaluated in line with the 2053 Net Zero Emission targets.
It was announced that Turkey ranks fifth in Europe and eleventh in the world in renewable energy, with a target to reach 120,000 megawatts of installed capacity by 2035.
