European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the new 200 million euro investment package covering this year and next year during a joint press conference held in Nuuk.

Three Strategic Areas Identified

It was reported that the announced financing package will focus on three main strategic areas: connectivity, clean energy, and critical raw materials.

Internet Infrastructure Being Strengthened

Within the scope of the project, the country's satellite capacity will be increased; settlements in the north will get high-speed internet immediately, and remote regions in the east starting from October.

Hydroelectric and Clean Energy

To utilize Greenland's high hydroelectric potential, new power plants will be supported, and local energy production will be increased.

Critical Raw Material Projects

With the support to be provided to the Malmbjerg molybdenum mine and the Amitsoq graphite projects, it is aimed to develop Greenland's raw material sector.

Future Budget Proposal

In the EU's next long-term budget, it was proposed to increase the funding provided to Greenland more than twofold by 2034, reaching 530 million euros.
