With the start of the 2026-2027 academic year in universities across Turkey, cafeteria fees have been increased. During the same period, gold prices in global markets recorded their sharpest decline since September 1, falling to the $4,198 level due to the rise in oil prices and US bond yields.

New cafeteria tariffs at universities

With the start of the new academic year, many universities have reorganized their cafeteria fees. The meal price has been set at 70 TL at Istanbul University, 75 TL at Boğaziçi University, and 90 TL at Yıldız Technical University.

At Ankara University, pricing differs for lunch and dinner. While lunch is applied at 50 TL, the dinner fee has been raised to the 100 TL level.

Some higher education institutions have made the reservation system mandatory for dining services. It has been announced that for students who do not make a reservation, meal prices will be applied at a higher level.

Gold prices declined in global markets

Gold prices in global markets lost value under the pressure of rising oil prices and the increase in US bond yields. Gold fell to the $4,198 level, marking the sharpest decline seen since September 1.

Investors continue to closely monitor employment and inflation data coming from the US in order to obtain clues about the future interest rate policies of the US Federal Reserve (Fed).
