Borsa İstanbul announced that, in line with the decision of the Capital Markets Board, the uptick rule will be applied to short-selling transactions in shares included in the BIST 50 index starting from the transactions dated September 22, 2026, until the next announcement.

KAP Announcement and Decision Details

In the official announcement made by Borsa İstanbul through the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), it was announced to the public that a new regulation has been implemented for shares in the BIST 50 index. Pursuant to the decision taken, the uptick rule has been activated for short-selling transactions in the said shares.

Operation of the Uptick Rule

According to the applied uptick rule, an order can be transmitted at a price higher than the last executed transaction price of the capital market instrument to be short-sold. In the event that the last executed price is higher than the previous price, the sale transaction can also be made at the current price.

Important Warnings for Investors

It was reminded that sales made during the day without owning the underlying asset and closed with purchases on the same day are also within the scope of short selling. Investors and investment institutions are required to pay attention to selecting the short-selling option when transmitting orders of this nature.

Aim to Limit Market Pressure

Through this practice, it is aimed to limit the downward pressure of short-selling transactions on stock prices. This rule prevents investors from selling stocks below the current price.
