A comprehensive dictionary bringing together approximately five thousand economic terms in five languages is being prepared through cooperation between the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mesopotamia Foundation.
Within the framework of a protocol signed between the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mesopotamia Foundation, preparatory work has officially begun for the Kurdish Economic Terminology Dictionary, which will bring together approximately five thousand economic terms in five different languages.
Protocol Signed
The first step for the Kurdish Economic Terminology Dictionary project was taken with the signing of an official protocol between the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mesopotamia Foundation.
Faruk Korkmaz, DTSO Board Member Responsible for Language and Culture Studies, and Osman Akyıl, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mesopotamia Foundation, took part in the signing ceremony.
Preparation in Five Languages
This new dictionary study aims to present approximately five thousand economic concepts in five languages, along with their Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and English equivalents.
Upon completion, the resulting work will be published to be offered for use by the business world, academia, and researchers.
Goal of a Common Terminology
With the project, it is aimed for terms in the fields of economy, finance, production, investment, entrepreneurship, foreign trade, export, and industry to attain a common usability in Kurdish.
In this way, it will be ensured that the concepts used by the business world in the professional field achieve terminological unity.
Expert Commission
It was decided to establish a special commission consisting of academics and language experts within the Mesopotamia Foundation.
This commission to be established will review international economic dictionaries and academic literature to determine the Kurmanji definitions of the terms and their equivalents in other languages.
Workshops Will Be Organized
In order to establish the academic and linguistic infrastructure solidly, at least five workshops will be held, with the first one taking place in Van.
Upon the completion of all processes, the dictionary will be shared with the public in both printed and digital formats, featuring the logos of both institutions.
