Fugitive Sentenced to Over Ten Years in Prison Captured in Adana
A former village guard leader, whose sentence for the murder of Musa Çelik was finalized and who was hiding as a fugitive, was caught while sharing videos on social media.
Şükrü Akçay, a former security village guard leader whose prison sentence of nearly fifteen years was upheld in the case regarding the long-barreled firearm murder of Musa Çelik, was captured in an operation at his hideout address in Adana and sent to prison.
Background of the Murder Incident
A feud had broken out between two families due to a debt dispute in the Midyat district of Mardin, and as a result of this feud, Musa Çelik, who worked as a shepherd, lost his life after being shot with a long-barreled firearm.
Trial Process and Sentences Given
In the investigation launched after the incident, the security village guard leader of the period, Şükrü Akçay, and his brothers were arrested, and in the trial held at the Midyat Heavy Penal Court, Şükrü Akçay was sentenced to twelve and a half years in prison for the crime of intentional homicide.
Social Media Activities During the Fugitive Period
It was determined that Akçay, who was released during the trial process and against whom an arrest warrant was issued after his sentence was upheld by the Court of Cassation, shot and shared videos under a different name to become a social media phenomenon while he was a fugitive.
Capture via Operation in Adana
Following technical and physical surveillance carried out by the teams of the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch Murder Bureau Directorate, it was determined that the suspect was hiding in a house in the Seyhan district.
Delivery to Prison
Şükrü Akçay, who was detained in an operation organized at the identified address, was delivered to prison after the completion of his procedures at the police station and the courthouse.
