Physics teacher walking in park severely beaten and critically injured in Konya
A physics teacher walking upon a doctor's recommendation was attacked by unidentified individuals in a park. The suspect related to the incident has been arrested.
Cumhur Öztürk, a 49-year-old physics teacher, was critically injured when he was attacked by strangers while walking in a park in Konya's Selçuklu district. Following the incident, the detained suspect Abdullah Erdal was arrested and sent to prison.
Violence in the Park
In the incident that took place on the evening of August 28 in a park in the central Selçuklu district of Konya, 49-year-old physics teacher Cumhur Öztürk was attacked while walking. It was stated that Öztürk, who had suffered a heart attack about 6 months ago and had two angiograms, was taking regular walks upon his doctor's recommendation.
Hospital Treatment Process
Öztürk collapsed to the ground covered in blood after being beaten by a stranger while walking in the park in Yazır Neighborhood. Taken to the hospital by medical teams upon the notification of bystanders, it was determined that Öztürk had suffered a brain hemorrhage, had a fractured skull, and broken teeth. Having undergone two separate surgeries, it was reported that Öztürk's treatment continues in a coma and his life is in danger.
Eyewitness Statement
Eyewitness Hakan K. told the police that he heard sounds of a fight while walking and that Öztürk was being beaten by a stocky, bald person around 35-40 years old. The witness stated that there was another person next to the suspect and that the attackers headed towards the bus terminal direction.
Suspect Arrested
As a result of the work carried out by police teams, the suspect Abdullah Erdal, determined to be connected to the incident, was caught. Referred to the courthouse after procedures at the security directorate, the suspect was arrested by the court and sent to prison.
Family's Statements
Stating that her husband has been fighting for his life for about a month, Saba Öztürk expressed that they do not know why the attack was carried out. Saba Öztürk emphasized that her husband did not know the attacker before and went out to the park solely for the purpose of walking on the day of the incident.
