Cilia Flores' Lawyers Request House Arrest on Health Grounds

Lawyers for Cilia Flores, wife of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro who was detained as a result of the US military intervention in January, have submitted a request for house arrest to the federal court in Manhattan citing deteriorating heart health.

Details of the House Arrest Request

In the official petition submitted to the federal court in Manhattan, Cilia Flores' lawyers pointed out that their client's heart health has been progressively worsening under prison conditions.

Stating that she deserves to await her trial under house arrest, the lawyers requested that Flores be held in a residence in the Manhattan area until next June.

Envisioned Security Measures

It was stated that in the event of a house arrest decision, Cilia Flores would be kept under strict surveillance by armed guards 24 hours a day.

Additionally, it was noted that the residence would be monitored with a video recording system and Flores would only be allowed to meet with individuals approved by the court or prosecutors.

Detention Process and Charges

Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores have continued to be held in a prison in Brooklyn since January.

The then-US Attorney General Pam Bondi had announced that criminal complaints had been filed against Maduro and his wife, and that various heavy charges were leveled against them.
