Iran's Statement on Blockade and Negotiations
In a statement issued by the Iranian foreign ministry, it was emphasized that Yemen's sovereignty must be respected. It was stated that the problems in the country cannot be resolved through military alliances or blockades.
The Iranian government shared with the public that they are ready to help support and initiate negotiations following the ongoing crisis.
Capture of Mokha Port
Iran-backed Houthi rebels entering the strategic Red Sea port of Mokha marked their largest territorial gain in recent years.
This move brought the rebels within about fifty miles of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which is of vital importance for global maritime trade.
Global Maritime Trade and Saudi Arabia's Stance
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait holds a major place in global shipping as an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz, with approximately twelve percent of the world's goods transported through it.
Meanwhile, as Saudi Arabia attempts to transport its oil out of the region, it continues its blockade against Houthi rebel attacks targeting maritime trade.

The intensifying clashes bring the risk of ending the fragile ceasefire that has largely halted the civil war in Yemen since 2022.
