In Vinh Long province, the Social Security and Health sectors organized a conference to disseminate legal regulations and raise awareness in order to protect the health insurance fund from fraud and abuse.
Proactively identifying, preventing, and immediately correcting errors and risks related to fund abuse at the most fundamental level stands out as a requirement of special importance for the relevant institutions of the province.
Legal Responsibilities and Penalties
Mr. Bui Quang Son, Deputy Chief Judge of the Provincial People's Court, explained Article 215 of the Penal Code, stating that crimes such as fake medical records, prescriptions, and embezzlement can entail criminal liability.
During the legal briefings, authorities informed participants that actions containing such criminal elements could carry prison sentences of up to 5 to 10 years.
The Role of Healthcare Facilities
Mr. Pham Minh Duong, Director of the Provincial Social Security Office, emphasized during the conference that healthcare facilities must strengthen their responsibilities.
Dr. Nguyen Van Be Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, pointed out that the management and effective utilization of the fund are of critical importance.
Current Insurance Coverage
As a result of the efforts carried out across Vinh Long, it was announced that the health insurance coverage rate is over 97 percent, with more than 3.35 million participants in the system.
