Cargo shipments in Turkey exceeded 728 million in the first half of the year

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that, according to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority report, the number of postal parcels and cargo shipments increased by 5 percent in the first six months of 2026, reaching 728.31 million.

Cargo volume in the first half of the year

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the 2026 First Half Turkey Postal Sector Market Data Report prepared by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that with the growth of e-commerce, the increase in postal parcel and cargo shipments has continued.

The number of shipments, which was approximately 691 million in the same period of last year, rose by 5 percent to 728.31 million in the first 6 months of 2026.

Weight and type distribution of shipments

Providing information on the weight distribution of postal parcels and cargo shipments, Uraloğlu noted that 82 percent of the shipments consisted of items weighing 2 kilograms and under.

While the share of shipments between 2 and 20 kilograms was 17 percent, shipments over 20 kilograms constituted only 1 percent of the total.

The intensive use of e-commerce platforms was also directly reflected in the corporate and individual proportions of shipments.

Corporate and individual shipment rates

Approximately 96 percent of the postal parcels and cargo shipments carried out in the first half of the year were recorded as corporate shipments.

The share of individual shipments remained at around 4 percent, and these rates revealed the general structure of the sector.

Intercity and international distribution

More than 83 percent of postal parcels and cargo shipments consisted of intercity shipments.

While approximately 15 percent of the shipments were delivered within cities, the rate of shipments sent abroad was around 2 percent.

The provinces with the highest number of deliveries were determined as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, and Kocaeli.

Communication, employment, and number of branches

The number of communication shipments in the first half of the year stood at approximately 105.8 million.

A total of 122,804 people were employed in the postal sector, while 9,543 postal branches and agencies continued to provide services across Turkey.
