Health Minister Memişoğlu Emphasizes Gaza and Health Crisis at the UN
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu stated that innocent people in Gaza cannot find vaccines and medicine.
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu delivered a speech at a meeting on pandemic preparedness during the 81st United Nations General Assembly held in New York. Drawing attention to the severe humanitarian picture in Gaza, Minister Memişoğlu emphasized that innocent people cannot even access essential medicines and vaccines.
Attention Drawn to the Health Crisis in Gaza
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu took the floor at the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Preparedness held within the scope of the 81st UN General Assembly. Devoting a significant part of his speech to the events in Gaza, the Minister laid bare the severe humanitarian devastation in the region.
Memişoğlu stated that women and children are ruthlessly targeted in Gaza, expressing that they are faced with a grave picture where innocent people cannot even reach life-saving vaccines and basic medicines.
Global Health Injustice and Order of Oppression
Stating that health is one of the most fundamental human rights, Memişoğlu underlined that global health security cannot be spoken of in a world where people cannot access treatment. The destructive effects of wars on health systems were pointed out.
Minister Memişoğlu expressed that they do not accept an order of oppression where profits are made over the sufferings of the innocent, and that health services and technologies must be offered for the common benefit of all humanity for a fairer world.
Turkey's Covid-19 Pandemic Experience
Conveying Turkey's success during the epidemic period, Minister Memişoğlu stated that thanks to its strong infrastructure, no citizen, from young to old, was left without treatment.
It was emphasized that Turkey transformed the experience and capabilities gained during this process into international solidarity, providing support to countries in need.
Call for International Cooperation and Shared Responsibility
Noting that pandemics are a global shared responsibility, Memişoğlu said that countries can only overcome such tests by acting together.
Making a call to all countries at the end of his speech, Minister Memişoğlu noted that protecting health must be transformed into a way of life, and peace into a shared responsibility.
