The Istanbul Medical Chamber reacted to the targeting of LGBTI+ rights organizations and civil society organizations working in the field of HIV, as well as the access blocks imposed, within the scope of the ongoing 'Family is Safe' investigations.
Investigation and Detention Information
Operations were carried out within the scope of the 'Family is Safe' investigations, which have been ongoing since September 12.
As of September 17, a total of 116 people were detained and 82 people were arrested.
Access Blocks and Organizations
Access blocks were imposed on the websites and social media accounts of numerous associations and individuals.
The accounts of the Sexual Education Treatment and Research Association and the Psychiatric Association of Turkey were also affected.
Impacts on Healthcare Services
It was stated that fear of discrimination may lead LGBTI+ individuals to avoid applying to healthcare institutions.
It was emphasized that rendering civil society organizations in the field of HIV dysfunctional could pose a risk in terms of public health.
