A new study published in the European Heart Journal has revealed that exposure to low levels of light at night can lead to adverse changes in the structure and function of the heart.

Details of the Research

The study published in the European Heart Journal found a link between low levels of light exposure at night and adverse changes in the structure and function of the heart.

Expert Warnings

Researchers pointed out the importance of a dark sleep environment to prevent this effect, which could strain the heart in the long term.

Risk of Cardiac Remodeling

Lu Qi from Tulane University stated that exposure to higher levels of light at night is linked to cardiac remodeling, which can weaken the heart and lead to heart failure.

Findings and Scans

The 11,071 participants in the study were exposed to varying levels of nighttime light for one week, and scans conducted three years later showed that those with the highest light exposure experienced thickening of the left ventricular walls and a decrease in heart elasticity.
