Plans to Include Next-Generation Cancer Drugs in Health Insurance Coverage
The Ministry of Health is preparing to expand the coverage of 349 drugs at the primary healthcare level while considering adding next-generation cancer and biological drugs to the insurance list.
The Ministry of Health is revising the list of drugs covered by the Health Insurance Fund, planning to expand the coverage of 349 drugs at primary healthcare facilities, and considering the inclusion of next-generation cancer drugs, biological drugs, and immunotherapy medications on the list.
Drug List Revision
The Ministry of Health announced that it is reviewing and revising the list of drugs covered by the Health Insurance Fund and plans to expand the coverage area of 349 drugs in primary healthcare facilities.
The inclusion of next-generation cancer drugs, biological drugs, and immunotherapy medications on the list is also under consideration.
Response to Voter Petitions
Following the first session of the 16th National Assembly, the Ministry of Health responded to a petition from voters in Vinh Long province regarding the provision of medicines under health insurance coverage.
According to voter suggestions, patients undergoing examination and treatment at commune health centers were generally provided with insufficient medication, failing to meet their treatment needs.
New Reimbursement Principles
The Ministry of Health stated that health insurance reimbursement for chemical drugs will be based on the scope of professional activities rather than the hospital hierarchy.
This regulation will be implemented based on the approved list of technical services as well as diagnostic and treatment guidelines.
Transition to Specialty Levels
Instead of classification based on the current hospital category, the ministry plans to transition to a drug reimbursement system based on technical specialty levels.
This is expected to make it easier for patients to access medicines at primary healthcare facilities.
Current Cancer Drugs
Regarding the cancer treatment drugs raised by voters in Vinh Long, the ministry stated that the country possesses a relatively comprehensive drug list.
Out of 1,037 active ingredients and biological products on the current list, 76 are used in cancer treatment.
Free Hospital Services
The project for the gradual implementation of the policy on exemption from hospital fees is expected to be submitted to the Prime Minister in 2028.
Priority will be given to social assistance beneficiaries, vulnerable groups, and low-income individuals.
