Prison sentence demanded for driver in accident that killed two people in Bursa

The investigation has been completed and a lawsuit filed against the driver, who was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 1.09 per mille and caused the deaths of two people by crashing her SUV into a car while turning onto a minor road in Bursa.

How the Accident Occurred

The incident took place late at night on August 21 on Ahıska Street in the Çalı Neighborhood of Bursa's Nilüfer district, where two vehicles collided. As a result of the collision between the car driven by Yalçın Öz and the SUV driven by Gülçin Yeni, the car was dragged along, while the SUV came to a stop after hitting two parked vehicles. Following the accident, medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

Loss of Life and Injuries

In the traffic accident, car driver Yalçın Öz and passenger Olgun Yıldız lost their lives at the scene. SUV driver Gülçin Yeni and passenger Yağmur Y. were injured and taken to the hospital, where they were discharged after receiving treatment.

Arrest and Indictment Process

SUV driver Gülçin Yeni, who was referred to the courthouse after being discharged from the hospital, was arrested and sent to prison on September 11. The indictment prepared by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the Bursa 9th Heavy Penal Court.

Requested Prison Sentence

In the prepared indictment, legal action was taken against driver Gülçin Yeni, who was determined to have 1.09 per mille alcohol in her blood at the time of the accident. It was requested that the driver be tried for the crime of "causing death by conscious negligence," facing a prison sentence ranging from 2 years and 8 months to 22.5 years.

Surveillance cameras and mobile phone footage from the surrounding area regarding the incident have emerged. The mobile phone recordings captured moments showing the injured driver asking medical teams about the damage to her vehicle and dealing with her phone.
