It was announced that a mass discovered during heart examinations in a patient showing no symptoms was successfully removed from the body via a minimally invasive procedure.
A rare tumor accidentally discovered in the lung of a 52-year-old patient in Istanbul, who went for a check-up due to a family history of heart conditions, was successfully removed using minimally invasive surgery.
The Process Starting with a Heart Check-up
Computed tomography angiography was performed on Serkan Yalçın, who applied to the hospital despite having no complaints due to a family history of heart disease, in order to examine his coronary vessels in detail.
The Mass Noticed in the Lung
While no abnormalities were found in the coronary vessels during the evaluations, a suspicious mass of approximately 5 centimeters was detected in the patient's lung region.
Examinations and Surgical Decision
The mass, which was initially thought to be a cystic lesion and was kept under observation for a while, was clarified to show tumoral activity in a subsequent PET scan.
Operation via Closed Method
The detected mass was completely removed from the patient's body through a successful operation using a minimally invasive surgical method by expert teams.
Rare Tumor Type
It was officially confirmed that the mass examined in the laboratory after the surgery was an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, which is extremely rare in medical literature.
