The second meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, established within the scope of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, has started in Riyadh. Representing Turkey at the meeting are Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, and Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.

Turkey is participating with a high-level delegation in the Strategic Political and Defense Committee Meeting of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense, held in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh.

The Turkish delegation is represented at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, and Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.

Agenda Items and Emphasis on Security

While the main agenda item of the meeting consists of Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, regional developments concerning the joint security of the allies are being addressed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan is expected to reaffirm Turkey's strong solidarity against the attacks of the Houthis and emphasize that actions targeting holy sites are unacceptable.

Institutionalization and Regional Stability

It is foreseen that Fidan will share Turkey's views on the institutionalization process of the alliance and the steps to be taken, noting the importance of the progress achieved in a short time for lasting stability in the region.

Drawing attention to the need for regional conflicts to be resolved through peaceful means, Fidan is planned to call for avoiding actions that would escalate tension.

Background of the Mecca Alliance

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had signed this agreement in Mecca on August 7.

Aiming to reinforce the security of the three countries through joint deterrence and defense, the agreement seeks to bring regional solutions to regional problems.
