The Armed Attack in Turgutlu and Its Details
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that the armed attack organized near a high school in Manisa's Turgutlu district should not be handled solely in terms of school security.
It was stated that the attack did not take place inside Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, but rather near the school, and that the attacker used a hunting rifle obtained from home or from his grandparents' home.
Emphasis on Gun Safety at Home and Medication
Emphasizing that licensed weapons must be kept in places children cannot reach, Minister Tekin stated that this issue must be protected with the same care as medication storage sensitivity.
Bullying Allegations and School Status
Conveying that the attacker mentioned peer bullying in his initial testimony, Tekin reported that the student, who had just started the ninth grade, went to school for only two or three days due to absenteeism.
Social Media and Digital Platform Warnings
Making a call to parents regarding the internet environment, Tekin asked families to closely monitor who children communicate with on social media and gaming platforms.
Drawing attention to the fact that the attacker used a picture of a school shooting perpetrator in the US on his profile, Tekin noted that expert support should be sought when necessary.
School Security and Measures Taken
It was announced that security measures such as cameras, turnstiles, facial recognition systems, handheld detectors, and emergency buttons have been initiated according to the physical and socioeconomic conditions of schools.
Additionally, it was shared that more than 23,000 out of the designated 31,000 garden staff positions have started their duties.
