Justice Minister Akın Gürlek Makes Statements on Justice and Social Media in New York
Minister Akın Gürlek shared information at the Türkevi in New York regarding fund investigations, the fight against gangs, new judicial regulations, and the social media law.
While in New York for the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made important statements regarding fund investigations, the fight against street gangs, the new judge-prosecutor appointment regulation, and the social media regulation set to come to Parliament in October.
Fund Investigations and Measures on Assets
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated that extraordinary mobility and disproportionate growth were detected in the stock market fund system, and that they filed reports and criminal complaints with the Capital Markets Board (SPK).
Reminding that the funds have been liquidated and investigation permission granted, Minister Gürlek noted that proceedings were initiated against 63 people, some of whom were arrested, and precautionary measures were implemented by seizing the assets of the fund owners.
Extradition of Criminals and Call for Cooperation with the US
Calling on US authorities for cooperation regarding the extradition of criminals, Minister Gürlek stated that they closely follow the extradition processes of individuals fleeing from FETÖ and other criminal organizations.
Fight Against Street Gangs and Conflict Areas
Emphasizing that they are determinedly fighting against structures such as street gangs, drugs, illegal betting, and virtual gambling, Gürlek announced that sanctions against gangs inciting children to commit crimes have been increased with the 11th and 12th Judicial Packages.
New Scoring System for Judge and Prosecutor Appointments
Stating that the appointment regulation for judges and prosecutors has been completely changed to expedite the judiciary, Gürlek announced the transition to a scoring system based on compliance with target times, the accuracy of decisions, and the rate of upholding by the Court of Cassation.
Alo Justice 135 Line and Social Media Regulation
Announcing that the Alo Justice 135 line for delayed files will serve nationwide in Turkey in October, Minister Gürlek stated that the social media regulation will also be brought to the agenda of Parliament in October.
Stating that in the event of catalog crimes being committed through anonymous accounts, the account holder will be identified via the Presidency of Cybersecurity, Gürlek emphasized that individuals will not experience problems on social media as long as they do not commit crimes.
