Gallup and Microsoft Research Reveals AI Concerns
A new global study supported by Microsoft and conducted by Gallup shows that a large proportion of daily AI users in the U.S. are anxious about the technology.
An international study conducted by Gallup with Microsoft's support revealed that approximately 68 percent of Americans who use artificial intelligence every day are concerned about the technology, placing the U.S. among the leading countries in terms of anxiety rankings in this field.
Scope and Details of the Global Study
Commissioned by Microsoft and conducted by research firm Gallup, the study took place across 37 countries between April and July. This comprehensive survey, featuring approximately a thousand participants from each country, sheds light on how social attitudes toward artificial intelligence vary from country to country.
Concerns in the U.S. and Western Countries
According to the study's findings, Western countries rank among the regions most concerned about artificial intelligence. While the United States stood out as one of the countries with the highest anxiety tendency in the survey, 74 percent of Americans reported concerns about the technology, and only 36 percent stated they believe artificial intelligence will mostly help the country.
Usage and Anxiety Rates in Canada
The balance of usage and anxiety observed in wealthy Western countries was also evident in Canada. While 29 percent of surveyed Canadians stated they use artificial intelligence daily, more than half of these users expressed concerns regarding the technology's effects. Among Canadians generally aware of artificial intelligence, the overall anxiety rate was recorded at 64 percent.
Optimism in Asia and Other Regions
In the rest of the world, however, the picture presents a quite different outlook. In Singapore, which has the highest daily user rate in the study, more than 80 percent of those familiar with artificial intelligence expect the technology to improve their daily lives, while in countries such as China and Israel, the majority think artificial intelligence will contribute to the country.
Evaluation of Results and Sentiments
According to the Gallup report, positive emotions generally outweigh negative sentiments. In 34 of the 37 countries surveyed, participants expressed curiosity toward the technology, with the highest positive emotion rates recorded in China, Singapore, and Kenya.
