Authorities are reviewing a possible new ransom note and social media posts nearly eight months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are reviewing a possible new ransom note and related social media comments in the case of Nancy Guthrie, who went missing from her Arizona home nearly eight months ago.
Review of Possible New Ransom Note
The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI Guthrie task force have been made aware of a possible new ransom note and associated social media comments that have emerged in recent days. Authorities are continuing their work to determine the credibility of the note.
Previous Ransom Notes and Investigation Process
In July, authorities shared with the public two ransom notes sent to a Tucson television station a few days after the February 1 disappearance of the mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie from her home outside Tucson.
The first note, dated February 2, stated that Nancy Guthrie was safe but frightened and would be released if a ransom of $4 million in cryptocurrency was paid. The second note, dated February 6, stated that Guthrie had died shortly after being kidnapped.
Current Status and Uncertainties in the Investigation
Authorities have not yet made a statement regarding whether Nancy Guthrie is still alive, and no suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. The investigation proceeds with unanswered questions, such as how many people participated in the abduction and whether Guthrie was kidnapped by someone she knew.
Meanwhile, the FBI previously shared surveillance footage showing a masked individual tampering with a camera on Nancy Guthrie's front porch and attempting to block it with a plant. The family continues to appeal for information through videos posted on social media.
