Earthquake survivor children in Hatay meet with Yeşilay's sports activities
Sports activities organized by Yeşilay in Hatay contribute to children aged 6-17 overcoming earthquake traumas and staying away from digital addiction.
Sports activities implemented by Yeşilay in Hatay, which was affected by the February 6, 2023 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, ensure that children evaluate their free time productively and stay away from digital addiction.
Activities in Antakya and Defne Districts
The work carried out by the Hatay Branch in cooperation with institutions in the Antakya and Defne districts allows children to be introduced to different sports branches. Activities organized in branches such as football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, and table tennis support the development of children.
Thanks to these organizations carried out with the support of sports instructors, Yeşilay members, and volunteers, participants between the ages of 6-17 spend time enjoying themselves. The activities reduce children's daily screen time and keep them away from digital screens.
Organized by Considering Educational Processes
Yeşilay Hatay Branch President Ömer Bilgin stated that they implemented this project with the aim of protecting children from all kinds of addictions. These meetings, attended by primary, secondary, and high school level students, are planned in a way that will not disrupt their educational life.
Stating that the activities coincide with after-school hours and weekends, Bilgin emphasized that the educational processes of the children are not negatively affected.
Social Support in Container Life
It was pointed out that living conditions in container cities after the earthquake can increase the risk of addiction. It is stated that such social, sportive, and cultural activities play an important role in helping children overcome earthquake traumas.
Defne District Director of Youth and Sports Sedat Öntürk noted that thanks to joint work with Yeşilay, children are protected from bad habits and spend their time more productively.
Children's Satisfaction and Participation
Children participating in the activities expressed their satisfaction with the sports opportunities provided. Stating that they both do sports and have a pleasant time thanks to the activities, the children show great interest in the project.
